Jul 19, 2014 7:16 AM

The Rockies defeated the Mets 18-9 on Friday night, spoiling Scott Hairston's cycle. Hairston became the 10th player in team history and first in the majors this season to hit for the cycle. "It is bittersweet," Hairston said. "It was great while it was happening. But when they kept scoring runs, it really wasn't that enjoyable, to say the least."

Royals Snap 12-Game Losing Streak

Oct 5, 2014 7:36 PM

The Royals defeated the Indians 8-2 on Wednesday night, ending their 12-game losing streak in the process. Kansas City is 4-14 on the season after entering 2012 with some higher expectations. "It does us no good," said starter Luke Hochevar, "to sit there and think about, 'If we didn't lose this game,' or, 'If this streak didn't happen.' We have to focus on what's in front of us and focus on the things that we need to do to be successful. I think that's going to be our next step: putting it behind us."

Rangers Beat Tigers On Missed Call In 11th

Aug 5, 2014 12:26 AM

The Rangers defeated the Tigers 3-2 on Sunday on a missed call in the top of the 11th inning. Alberto Gonzalez squared to bunt, hoping to drive in the go-ahead run on a squeeze play. The ball hit his bat and glanced off his right leg before bouncing off the ground and out toward the pitcher. Instead of being called a foul ball, Gonzalez's bunt went for an RBI infield single, driving in the winning run. "As soon as he hit the ball and saw the ball was fair, he didn't stop himself," his translator said. "He was trying to go to first base. He knew the job was done." Detroit manager Jim Leyland came out to argue, but to no avail. "I saw just what it did: The ball came down and hit him on the back knee. Clearly. Clearly. That's not even a question," Leyland said. "The ball clearly hit him, and four guys happened to miss it. That's part of the game."

Jul 4, 2014 7:44 PM

Jamie Moyer showed there remains a place for a vintage lefty as the 49-year-old became the oldest pitcher to ever win a major league game. He threw seven strong innings and Dexter Fowler hit a two-run homer to help the Rockies beat the Padres 5-3 on Tuesday night. "It's a great night for the Rockies, as far as winning a baseball game. But it's an historic night for one tremendous human being," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said. "It couldn't happen to a better guy. A more professional person I don't know I've been around." Moyer was sharp all evening as he picked up his 268th career win, tying him with Jim Palmer for 34th on the career list.

"I wanted to go back out there and shut those guys down. Obviously, it didn't go the way I would have liked. But when it came down to it, I made the pitch I needed to make."
